Article five is from a study conducted by Hosseini et al. (2017). The study investigated the diagnostic specificity and the predictive values of using ultrasonography in diagnosing acute appendicitis. The study made use of quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study. The key findings in the study revealed that the use of ultrasonography has a very low sensitivity which is only 37.1%. The specificity of ultrasonography is 87.2 percent. The positive predictive value is 96.8% and the negative predictive value was only 11.7% (Hosseini et al., 2018). This study proves that ultrasonography is not sensitive enough to diagnose acute appendicitis and may often result in false positive outcome.
